ECR-glass woven rovings serve as the most widely used fabric for GRP reinforcement in various applications, from surfboards to aircraft components. Incorporating woven rovings into laminates produces stronger, lighter, and more cost-effective laminates compared to traditional chopped strand mat laminates.

The choice of fabric construction depends on the required properties and geometrics of the moulded product.

Plain Weave

The essential characteristic: It guarantees a reproducible laminate thickness. This is the most commonly used basic construction, lending itself to most applications.

Advantages:

  • good resistance to shifting of the yarn
  • very uniform laminate.

Twill Weave

The essential characteristic: The interlacing is looser and the weave has a diagonal twill line. Each warp yarn floats over at least two consecutive weft yarns.

Advantages:

  • constructions are more pliable
  • can be easily impregnated
  • very good mould conformity
